Dynamic Tape ®

A multi-tiered approach to Biomechanical Taping

Dynamic Tape is not a kinesiology or athletic tape. It is the “Original” Biomechanical Tape ®, an entirely new category of sports and therapeutic taping. These innovative, 4-way stretching tapes with strong elastic resistance and recoil of varying grades, absorb and inject force to reduce the workload on the body. Our taping methodology aims to directly manage load, modify movement patterns and assist function. Dynamic Tape does all this with a soft, breathable tape that is of such high quality and strength that professional athletes around the world trust our product everyday. From rehabilitation to the World Cup, Dynamic Tape is changing the way we look at sports and therapeutic taping.

Dynamic tape is very different from other tapes in the market. As an example, my taped foot feels much more reactive than usual… and that’s down to the elasticity.

Dynamic Tape has enabled us to manage Achilles tendinopathy much more effectively than in the past. The quality of the tape, specifically the multi-directional elasticity, ensures it is highly beneficial for a multitude of pathologies.

I really have been thinking to write to you many times since the Commonwealth Games.  I was given an extra roll of Dynamic Tattoo Tape during the games and I have saved a little piece of it for worlds TT and RR coming up next week. The main reason being that I have never had any better tape before meaning I had to save it for this special occasion :-).  I had a crash back in 2007 which has left me with a massive scar on my right knee (just above) and a tendency to massive swelling after hard and especially after races in hot weather.   I have no pain but I find taping it up supports my knee better and allows the fluid to pass easier. Also, I never found a tape sticking so well as Dynamic Tape.

I have used dynamic tape extensively throughout the last four years, with athletes from: UKA in preparation and during London 2012; the Jamaican sprint squad; the senior England rugby team; and Saracens RFC, as well as my general client base in private practice. I have found it to be a great adjunct to therapy and my clinical paradigms both in the acute stage of injury and in facilitating return to sport either through movement correction or to maximise tissue and joint mechanics at the top end.

I became familiar with the dynamic tape at the APTA combined section meeting in Chicago (February 2012).  As a practicing sports PT with diverse experience with different taping products, I saw a great potential of dynamic tape in providing    better solutions for my patients.   I brought some tape home and began experimenting with it.

Over the past six month I have been using the tape with various athletes- track and field, gymnastics, Judo, swimming and surfing.   I can honestly attest to the superior quality of the product as far as tape adherence, comfort, ease of application, diversity of techniques and patient feedback.  We have been very successful in several cases where dynamic tape offered a different support from what we had been able to achieve with K- tape, Tensoplast or rigid taping.   Following our positive experience dynamic tape was added to our basic “toolkit” for the upcoming London games, and I can strongly recommend it to any therapist wishing to aid their athletes, particularly during high energy, dynamic motions, and when maximal support with least restriction in the objective.

Thanks to Ryan Kendrick and Dynamic Tape the Vanuatu women beach volleyball team enjoy vital physiotherapy support, financial assistance and sports tape that not only looks good with its Pacific design but provides pain relief and keeps the girls active while recovering from injuries.

Dynamic Tape brings an exciting new dimension to traditional taping methods – addressing biomechanics whilst still allowing full range of motion. This has a variety of clinical implications. For example in overhead sports more than often tape is either too restrictive or not restrictive enough – Dynamic Tape finds that balance whilst providing functional dynamic assistance. The visco-elastic properties of the tape offer mechanical assistance thereby may be used as a rehabilitative tool such as gait re-training post operatively. Dynamic Tape is like any new skill, practice makes perfect! The good thing is that it is a relatively easy skill to learn – as long as you have a thorough understanding of biomechanics and the principles behind choosing a taping method, then Dynamic Tape will become a permanent new tool in your tool box!
